A CELEBRATION of the community in north Bolton brought together more than 4,000 people for the annual Party in the Park.

For the fifth year in a row the party saw different Christian denominations work together with local charities and community groups to put on a family fun day.

The day began with a church celebration service before the stage was given over to acts like primary school choirs and Bollywood dancers.

Rev Vincent Whitworth of St Peter's Church in Halliwell, said: "My favourite part was the church celebration service. We had eight churches join us. It was a great show of unity among the churches.

"I think partly because it's important we all work together to come together and share the same faith. It's important we break down these cultural ideas and thoughts about churches.

"People think we work in separation but this shows we work together."

The Party in the Park took place at Moss Bank Park off Church Road on Sunday and visitors saw performances by choirs from Johnson Fold Community Primary School in Worston Avenue, Church Road Primary School in Captain's Clough Road and St Peter's Smithills Dean CE Primary School in Limefield Road.

Bollywood dancers from Bolton Interfaith Council also entertained the crowds and there were plenty of tombolas, guess the weight of the cake and balloon modelling stalls to keep little ones occupied.

There were also football tournaments and an inflatable assault course to take part in and Bolton Wanderers Community Trust brought an inflatable dart board for people to have a go.

Rev Whitworth said: "We had over 40 organisations set up stalls. Part of the day has been showcasing local charities and churches and what they do. That's brought a lot of people in the community together.

"It started up with St Peter's thinking we need to get out into the community so we contacted local community leaders to put on a Party in the Park.

"I suppose the aim is the bring the community of north Bolton together and share the love of God as well."
