A BOLTON MP is backing a Labour policy to ban the sale and imports of fur.
The party's policy is to tackle the trade in fur by requiring shops to prominently label items containing real fur and phase in a ban on all fur imports.
Sir David Crausby, MP for Bolton North East said: "My inbox and postbag are full of messages from local residents concerned the Government’s policies on animal welfare and fur do not go far enough.
"We have a Prime Minister who has actively supported fox hunting, and we have seen the badger cull kill record numbers of badgers under this government. The Tories cannot be trusted to deliver on animal welfare.
"It is clear that banning fur is an important issue to many people across a number of industries. Top fashion designers such as Gucci and Michael Kors have committed to a ban on fur, and more British high-street stores are joining the commitment to make Britain fur-free."
A ban on fur-farming in the UK was introduced in 2000 by the Labour government.
