HUNDREDS of school children have been singing their hearts out in front of jam-packed audiences at Bolton's Victoria Hall this week.

Friday night is the finale of the annual Bolton Schools' Music Association Festival — which this year celebrates 50 years.

More than 2,000 pupils from 55 primary schools have hit the high notes during this year's week-long choral event.

But the 2018 showcase will sadly be the last for organisers Bolton Schools' Music Association, who will hereafter hand over the reins to Bolton Music Service in association with Trust Music.

Chairwoman Val Deary said: "The first Festival was organised by a group of teachers and ran for just one night.

"This year alone, more than 2,000 children are taking part.

"It is a huge accolade that, after 50 years, the Festival is still a highlight in the school calendar.

"It has been a privilege to have been a part of this wonderful event, and part of the association.

"My thanks go to all who have supported us over the years, including our sponsors, Horwich Rotary Club ."

The audience at Friday's event can expect to hear four massed choir performances, featuring "Song Inside of You", "As We Grow", "Jazz is Cool" and "We are One" among other favourites.

Bolton Youth Symphonic Wind and Brass Ensemble will open the evening, followed by recitals from SS Osmund and Andrew's RC Primary School, Sunning Hill Primary School, The Gates Primary School and St Peter's CE Primary School.

The programme also features Mytham Primary School, Holy Infant and St Anthony RC Primary School, singing "She Loves You", Church Road Primary School, and Clevelands Preparatory School's "Lion King Medley".

Before the curtain call, pupils from St Mary's CE Primary School, Gaskell Community Primary School and St Teresa's RC Primary School will also make their star appearances.
