A WOMAN died after a collison in a Farnworth car park.

The incident occurred in the car park of Home Bargains, off Market Street, at around 3.10pm.

The woman who died was in her 70s. She was driving a red Chevrolet Matiz collided which collided with a grey BMW 3 series before colliding with a wall.

Police attended the scene along with two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle. A helicopter from the air ambulance service also landed on land at nearby Church Road, but was later stood down as the woman died at the scene.

The female driver of the BMW remained at the scene to speak with officers. Neither of the drivers were with passengers.

No arrests have bene made and enquiries are ongoing.

Police Sergeant Brian Orr, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was a tragic incident that has left a family devastated and we are doing all we can to support them at this unimaginably difficult time.

“We are working hard to piece together the exact circumstances that led to this woman’s death and a scene remained in place for some time yesterday while investigative work was carried out."
