PUPIL Marcus Harrison is flying high - after saying goodbye to school life in style!

The 16-year-old left his pals red with envy after turning up for his school prom in a helicopter.

Marcus, who attended Ladybridge High School, surprised his fellow school pupils who were gathered outside the Last Drop Village Hotel and Spa in Bromley Cross.

He has dreams of becoming an airline pilot and is already taking lessons for his private pilot licence.

Marcus said: “I was made up with the helicopter ride, it is my first time in a helicopter.

"It was just amazing it was a brilliant.

“We flew from Barton and it was just great.”

Marcus’ ambition is to be a commercial pilot after his studies.

His dad, Mark Harrison, organised the helicopter. Mr Harrison, who lives in Beaumont Chase, said: “I didn’t want his school days to just slip away.

"The kids are all trying to out do each other with cars but Marcus lives, breathes and sleeps aircraft and flying.

“He spends all his time on flight simulators and to combine the two made a lot of sense.”

Mr Harrison said: “When we go on holiday Marcus loves taking to the captain and if he can get into the cockpit — from being a little boy he’s loved that.

“He has all the apps in his phone to track flights all over the world. It’s all he wants to do.

“I keep talking about alternatives and he says ‘there’s no alternative, even if I have to go to a third world country to get the qualifications’.

"He’ll go anywhere in the world to fulfil his dream.”

The school prom has been organised by Beverly Houlihan, student support for year 11, who has been with the year group since they started five years ago.

Mrs Houlihan said Marcus’ arrival was a closely-guarded secret and was going to be a surprise for many staff as well as students.
