BOLTON duo Sound of Thieves are set to make a big noise on the music scene after launching their first EP at a sell out 'homecoming' gig.

Musical pair, Phoebe Pope and Jan Bures performed tracks from their In My Kingdom to packed crowd at The Old Pint Pot.

Vocalist Phoebe said: "The launch party went amazing.

"We managed to pack out the whole venue, the audience was very supportive and created an amazing atmosphere for us to showcase our new music.

"We also had a great support act, KJ TOPP, who played a fantastic set.

"We were really happy with the response from the people, especially their positivity for the new tracks that they were hearing for the first time!"

The band started in Cyprus, with Phoebe, from Bromley Cross, moving into Jan's home in 2014, before moving back to Bolton in 2016 to make it in the UK.

Now they have released their music on the back of successful gigs across the country.

"Things are going great so far! Since moving back in 2016 we have been working really hard at gathering more and more support around Bolton and Manchester," said Phoebe, "We’ve been gigging as much as possible, and busking in Manchester, throughout all of last year (including the winter months), and thanks to this we have seen a steady increase of followers on our social media."

She added: "We had some amazing opportunities as well: we’ve played at the opening of the Manchester International Festival, at the Etihad Stadium, and this summer we will be performing at the Manchester Jazz Festival, which we are really excited about.

"Our street performance has also directly resulted in the release of this EP: we’ve been approached by a producer while performing, and he offered us the use of his studio."

The two have developed a unique sound which they both find hard to describe but is perhaps best summed up as experimental electro-funk.

The cinematic sound is created with a mix of sampling, live-looping and live instruments, creating unusual covers and unique songs.

The two met while both living and studying in Bolton, did not initially decided to team up their musical skills until three years into their relationship.

Phoebe said: "On the EP we wanted to experiment with some new sounds, while still keeping our signature feel: as a result each track seems to have a life of its’ own, while still being part of a larger composition. We want the listeners to be able to discover new things about our music each time they listen to the songs on the EP.

"Now that the EP is out, we are looking forward to the rest of the summer."

The two are to perform at a festival in Switzerland, at the Manchester Jazz Festival, and the Ferrara Buskers Festival in Italy, as well as Sonder Festival in Manchester in September.

"The goal is to play our music to as many people as possible, get the word out, and continue our adventure," said Phoebe, who is from Bromley Cross

She added: "The process of making the EP took several months, as it included not just recording and producing, but also writing a big part of it from scratch.

"It has been a really exciting process and we are really happy with how the result has been received so far.

"We have gained so many fans in the last year and a half, who continue to show us huge amounts of support and encouragement, and they really are a huge driving force in what we do.

"Being back in the UK has opened up an endless amount of possibilities, and we still feel like this is all just the beginning."
