A BOLTON MP has pushed for the universal credit roll out in Parliament.

Bolton West MP Chris Green asked the secretary of work and pensions, Esther McVey: "Both the jobcentres that serve my constituents are fully supportive of the roll-out of universal credit, so will she maintain her focus on rolling out universal credit as the best way to help people into work and to help people in work?"

Ms McVey said: " This is what we are about: getting more people into work, which we have done — and significantly so. Now we are reaching out to help even more people, significantly so."

The government began rolling out Universal Credit, which combines six existing payments into one monthly one, in 2014.

Bolton is currently operating the live service, which is a phone-based way of managing your account. The switch to the full service with online accounts will happen in November.

Mr Green was speaking in a House of Commons debate on Universal Credit which happened on Thursday.
