MORE details have been released about the demolition of the old Horwich Leisure Centre.

The unused building in Victoria Road has been closed and empty since the new £10million facility next door opened towards the end of last year.

And Bolton Council recently announced that contractors Reddish Demolition had been appointed and will take possession of the site off Victoria Road on Monday, July 23.

In a leaflet for residents, Reddish revealed more details about the work that would be taking place.

It said: "The demolition of the former leisure centre will be carried out in phases in order to minimise disruption to yourselves and the new leisure centre.

"We will ensure temporary parking arrangements are taken into consideration throughout our works and will notify all relevant parties in due course.

"We are commencing on site on July 23 and the first week we will be installing site fencing around the boundaries.

"We will be providing security on site outside of our working hours and will ensure the site remains secure at all times.

"Special considerations will be put in place to prevent disturbance or nuisance during our works.

"Our works will be completed by the end of October."

The contractor has divided the building into three "zones" which will be worked on individually.

Zone one is the middle section while zone three is the elevation closes to Chorley New Road and zone two is the section to the rear closest to Brooklands.

The leaflet continued: "We will only need to close the parking areas when we are carrying out machine demolition on the specific elevations and we will liaise with all relevant parties in advance when this is necessary.

"We envisage week seven or eight of our works handing 50 per cent of zone two back over to the council for temporary parking."

The site of the old leisure centre will eventually contain new car parking spaces and the a new health and wellbeing centre.
