A MOTORCYCLIST has died after being involved in a collision with a car early this morning.

The motorcyclist, who is believed to be in his 50s, was at the junction of Bury Road and Crompton Way, Breightmet at 1.45am when the collision occurred.

Police say a white Ford Fiesta and a blue Suzuki SV motorcycle collided as the car began to turn into the junction.

The rider of the Suzuki, who had not yet been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.

PC Paul Joynson, from Greater Manchester Police said: “In the early hours of this morning, we sadly had to inform a family that their loved one had died and have since been piecing together each bit of information so we can tell them exactly what happened.”

The driver of the Fiesta remained at the scene and no arrests have been made.

The road was closed while officers examined the scene but reopened at around 6am.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

PC Joynson said: “I appreciate there weren’t many people around at that time in the morning but if you were in the area and saw what happened or have dashcam footage that might be of use to us, please get in touch with us.”
