A MOTORCYCLIST has died following a collision in Blackrod this morning.

The crash, involving a white Ford Focus and a blue Suzuki motorbike, happened at about 8.45am on the Blackrod Bypass close to the boarding kennels.

The motorcyclist, a man believed to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford Focus, a man aged 32, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He remains in police custody for questioning.

Blackrod Bypass was closed in both directions between Station Road and Dark Lane while officers examined the scene, but reopened at about 1.25pm.

Constable Paul Shore from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a man has sadly lost his life.

“Our investigations are still at an early stage and we are committed to building a picture of what happened so we can give the victim’s family the answers they need.

“This collision occurred during rush hour on a busy main road, so we are confident there are witnesses who can assist our investigation.
