FIREFIGHTERS rescued a seven-year-old boy after he got stuck up a tree.

The youngster had been playing with friends in Bolton Road Park, Radcliffe, when he became trapped 10 metres above ground, at about 7.40pm.

A crew from Whitefield Fire Station attended and came to the rescue of the youngster, who claimed to be scared of heights.

It is thought that he climbed up the tree deliberately.

Firefighter Alex Vyas helped the boy to safety by walking him down a ladder.

James Cheverton, watch manager at Whitefield Fire Station, issued a warning to youngsters about climbing trees.

He said: "You can get seriously hurt climbing that far up a tree, it is not something we would recommend doing, even when it is nice weather in the summer.

"There were about ten children there at the time. They did the right thing and called 999."
