A MAN has gone on trial accused of murdering a Polish man who was hacked to death on a Bolton street.

Tomasz Bubrowski has already been convicted of killing Sebastian Zuchlinksi on the evening of February 6 2016.

The prosecution allege he was one of four men who ambushed Mr Zuchlinski in Davenport Street, attacking him with weapons including a machete and an axe.

Now another man, Mateusz Madej, who is also alleged to have been one of the attackers, has gone on trial at Bolton Crown Court.

Madej, aged 24, of no fixed address, denies murder.

Opening the case to a jury of eight women and four men, Mark Monaghan, prosecuting, said: "All those involved at Davenport Street were part of a joint enterprise which intended really serious harm and which resulted in the death of Sebastian Zuchlinski."

The court heard how Mr Zuchinski was going to borrow some shoes for a night out and was being driven by his girlfriend's sister, Beata Brzeleinska in her Citroen.

But as they got into the vehicle it was blocked in by a silver Honda, four men got out and stabbed and cut Mr Zuchlinski.

"I just remember him being on the floor and they were attacking him," a tearful Miss Brzeleinska told the jury.

The court heard how the attack only stopped and the killers fled when Good Samaritan, Naseran Iqbal drove down the road and blew her car horn.

She then cradled dying Mr Zuchlinski on her lap until emergency services could arrive, but he died at the scene. Injuries included a stab wound which punctured his lung

Mr Monaghan said 10 days earlier Madej had been seen on CCTV with Bubrowski at B&Q buying implements including a machete-type tool.

In the week before the attack Madej had been staying at the Whites Hotel and Premier Inn in Chorley New Road, Horwich.

"The Crown say that he was spending that time looking for Sebastian Zuchlinski," said Mr Monaghan.

The prosecution allege Madej was with Bubrowski during and after the murder. They were together when they were traced by police to an apartment at Highclere Road, Salford, six days later.

The trial continues.
