IT was a weekend washout as the summer heatwave came to a dramatic end with downpours.

After weeks of hot, dry weather there was a dramatic fall in temperature and gusts of wind on Saturday as rain came down. It was the first day this month that nowhere in the UK reached at least 25C.

The rain continued into yesterday with heavy rainstorms battering the town and leading to standing water on roads.

While more rain in the area is expected today, forecasters say it will be light, accompanied by a gentle breeze with temperatures only expected to reach 20C. Temperatures throughout the rest of the week are due to remain in the low 20s although the rain is likely to largely hold off and there will be sunny intervals.
