LOOKING for something to do with you little ones this week? Why not visit Chester Zoo's littlest big attraction — a newborn baby black rhino.

The calf was born just over a week ago to proud mum Malindi in front of stunned zoo visitors.

This week the youngster ventured outside to play for the first time, spending an hour running around and rolling in sand before returning to mum's side and heading off for a well deserved nap.

Tim Rowlands, Curator of Mammals at Chester Zoo, said: “Malindi has bonded very well with her new calf during these important early days and, as an experienced mum, is doing a great job once again.

"The calf has bundles of energy and keepers will soon choose a name that perfectly matches his big personality.”

Malindi and her calf are two of Chester's very special Eastern Black Rhino population and part of the zoo's critical work to support conservation efforts to protect the species.

Eastern Black Rhino are listed as critically endangered with experts fearing as few as just 650 remain in the wild.
