A FARMER was given advice burning off rubbish in his field.

Crews were called to land off Lavender Street, Radcliffe at 2pm yesterday.

It was one of two incidents of people burning rubbish in the borough.

Firefighters partially extinguished the fire in both cases.

Watch Manager Tony Wellock of Whitefield Fire Station said: "He was burning quite a large quantity of rubbish measuring five metres by five metres.

"We gave him some advice."

And later in the afternoon, crews were called to another similar incident on land off Buller Mews in Bury, after a large quantity of rubbish was being burned.
