A life on the ocean wave beckons for Casey Green after a birthday to remember.

He celebrated his 18th birthday on Wednesday – which was when he found out he had been accepted for Royal Navy training.

And there was more good news on Thursday when he learned he had been awarded a Double Distinction for double science, and a Distinction* in sport.

“I’m totally chuffed,” said Casey who lives in Appledore Drive, Horwich.

He is now looking forward to going to Devon to begin his naval training at HMS Raleigh.

Sian Jones, 18, will also be extending her horizons as she will be spending a year staying at her auntie’s in Perth, Australia.

After that, Sian, of Kentmere Road, Breighmet, will take up a place at the University of Chester where she will be studying forensic psychology.

Cheerleader Kate Parkinson, 18, deserves to give herself a shout out after achieving Distinction* in sport and double science.

As well as cheerleading, Kate, of Saunton Avenue, Harwood, is a gymnastics coach in her spare time.

She will be studying sports development at Liverpool John Moores University.

Megan Duckers (18) is also planning for a career in sport after gaining Distinction* in applied science, sport and health and social care.

“I’m buzzing. My results exceeded all my expectations,” said Megan, of Rose Lea, Harwood.

She is looking forward to studying sports coaching and development at the University of Central Lancashire.
