An impressive 95.2 per cent of papers up from 91.5 per cent last year were marked at A*-C.

Headmaster Philip Britton, said: "We are delighted to be celebrating what is arguably our best set of A-level results for a decade.

"Those facts and figures though are far less important than celebrating the success of the young men who have worked so hard to achieve their academic potential, very often alongside considerable commitments to sport or music or other interests and also their community service." He added: "The real pleasure of results day is to feel we have gone some way to preparing another generation for the next steps in lives that will make some difference for good in their world."
