RESIDENTS campaigning against plans by Peel Investments to develop Horwich Golf Course for housing held a fundraising day to raise the profile of their cause.

Stocks Residents Association objected to recent proposals for 300 homes to be built on Horwich Golf Course which were refused by Bolton Council’s Planning Committee in June, but could be allowed if Peel appeal successfully to the government.

Horwich North East Councillors, Joyce Kellett, Richard Silvester and Kevin McKeon as well as Labour parliamentary candidate for Bolton West, Julie Hilling attended the fundraising day.

Cllr Silvester said: ‘We have helped through our local area forum budget towards costs for legal advice, stationery and campaigning materials but the fight goes on and I stand with them against such development. They are very well organised."

Cllr Kellet said: "We must be ready if an appeal is submitted and to combat any arguments that Peel may put forward that the development is acceptable because it certainly is not’.

Peel Investments have until the end of December to submit an appeal to the Planning Inspectorate.
