The Sci-fi on the Sidings event has returned to the East Lancashire Railway this weekend with a host of strange and other worldly characters and creations from the world of science fiction film and television descending on platforms and trains.

At Bury’s Bolton Street station, there was a range of characters from the world of Star Wars on the platforms, including Darth Vader and Stormtroopers for fans to meet.

There was also a chance to view Daleks props from Doctor Who.

Mike Kelly, East Lancashire Railway chairman, said: “We couldn’t be happier with how well the weekend’s festivities went.

"Over 2,000 people attended Sci-Fi on the Sidings, with many of them embracing the day’s theme in some really amazing costumes — it was definitely a sight to behold.

"This is the third year running we have hosted this particular event, and each year it just seems to get better and better, with everyone really getting into the spirit of the occasion.

"On behalf of all of us at the East Lancashire Railway, I’d like to thank everyone involved for making it such a great success. We already can’t wait for next year.”
