A POLICE Community Support Officer has been killed in a crash at Hindley Green, GMP has confirmed.

Shortly after 10am today, police were called to the junction of Atherley Road and Leigh Road in Hindley Green following reports a cyclist had been hit by a wagon.

Emergency services were called to the scene where they discovered that a 21-year-old cyclist had died.

Although the cyclist has not yet been formally identified, it is believed he was a PCSO based at Hindley police station who was on patrol.

The driver of the wagon was not seriously injured but is being treated for shock.

Because the PCSO was on duty at the time of the incident, the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.

My uttermost sympathy to his family, what a terrible accident.

I too have total respect for most of the PCSO's that do a great job in our area.

A shame, I agree but I would rather have a PC than a PCSO.
