Killer faces life over stab murder

THE killer of 30-year-old stab victim Keith Platt is facing life in jail after admitting his murder.

Richard Knott pleaded guilty at Manchester Crown Court on Monday as he was due to stand trial for the killing on March 16.

Mr Platt, a window cleaner, died after he was stabbed several times in his stomach outside a pub.

He had only left his house in Grosvenor Street to go in to Farnworth town centre and help his brother, Tony Callaghan, who had become involved in an argument with a group of men earlier that night.

Knott, aged 20, of Masefield Drive, New Bury, yesterday admitted the murder and was told that he would be sentenced next month.

Why is there so much aggression and violence in our society? It`s absolutely terrifying that some people seem incapable of any kind of self control. Why have we come to this?

Second degree murder, nothing less (life with 25 years before parole consideration). You leave your home with a knife in your pocket, and use it in commission of a violent act resulting in death, then you get the above.

At least this won't have to go to trial.

Given the propensity for violence these days, it would have been best to have told the brother to walk away. Mr Platt didn't deserve to die, but it sounds like he was going in to battle after the call from his brother. A regrettable and avoidable result.

There is no excuse on earth why anyone should carry a knife on the streets. If you carry a knife then you intend to use it.We do not want these sort of people in our society so therefore , hang him!!

The death penalty with a mandatory 5 yr death row for appeals should be brought back. Then a quick injection.

i agree with you john! even if he gets life thats no consolation to the mans family coz that arsehole is still breathing, i believe in an eye for an eye.
