A PURGE on rogue drivers on a Bolton estate led to police seizing 15 vehicles.
Roadside checks were carried out in the Brownlow Fold area last week.
Police used hi-tech Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to check passing cars for tax, insurance and MoT certificates.
Vehicles being used illegally were seized on the spot.
Fines and court summonses were alsoissued to 22 drivers for using mobile phones or not wearing seatbelts.
Officers carried out the checks as part of a week-long "beat sweep" targeting crime including arson, vandalism and car thefts.
Officers were joined by firefighters and council workers for the sweep which saw graffiti and fly-tipped rubbish removed.
Sgt Wayne Readfern said: "There is a correlation between vehicles which are used illegally and crimes like arson.
By taking these 15 vehicles off the road, there is less chance of them being used for crime or targeted by vandals.
"It's one of a number of ways we have adopted in the area to reduce crime and the fear of crime."
Sgt Readfern said a total of six people were arrested during the crackdown - three at the roadside for motoring offences and a further three who were wanted by the courts for breaching bail. Community support officers also delivered leaflets to homes across the area to offer crime prevention advice and patrols were increased.

I think the point Gazz is making is that in 1 week they managed to arrest 3 people for motoring offences and take 15 untaxed vehicles off the road, yet they are preaching as if they have broken a major crime ring and arrested a major gangland leader.

Well I fully support the Police in this. The more of these uninsured drivers they get off the road the better. And, as proven by the arrests for failure to appear, these cars are often driven by scrotes.

Also DAY you obviously need to learn some reading skills mate, this nonsense you keep posting saying I support druggies and not thier victims is something you have dreamt up yourself. Why dont you copy and paste on here any comments that I have made that back up whatever it is your on about. Not only do you need to learn rearn to read things properly you also want to research a bit into what your commenting on as your views just prove how little knowledge of the subject you have. Mind you it is typical of someone who makes their mind up about things by what they read in their local 2 bit paper. Have you ever read a proper newspaper like the Guardian which gives facts and figures supporting the news they report cos by the sounds of your comments on here over the past few months the BN to you is gospel. Mind you you are from Breightmet. Id put money on it that youve never been further than Bury.BoltonDave wrote: Not just a druggie supporter DAY, but a self confessed druggie herself who grows her own waccy baccy in the loft. Why do you assume that gazz's neighbour may end up selling cannabis to anybody let alone kids? just because he enjoys a smoke himself? Do you or people you know drink alcohol? Does that make those people automatically go and buy alcohol for kids from the shop, No, thought not. same thing in principal.Just for example, say I smoke cannabis, I have one plant which I grow in my own home, I smoke whats grown on it and grow another. Who am I harming apart from maybe be own mind? When people buy alcohol from the shop, sit at home, drink it, and get absolutley wasted. who are they harming? BY the sounds of your comments you have had no first hand experience of drugs of any class, not that that is bad thing by any means, but life isn't always as it's written in the text book love.
