A PURGE on rogue drivers on a Bolton estate led to police seizing 15 vehicles.

Roadside checks were carried out in the Brownlow Fold area last week.

Police used hi-tech Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras to check passing cars for tax, insurance and MoT certificates.

Vehicles being used illegally were seized on the spot.

Fines and court summonses were alsoissued to 22 drivers for using mobile phones or not wearing seatbelts.

Officers carried out the checks as part of a week-long "beat sweep" targeting crime including arson, vandalism and car thefts.

Officers were joined by firefighters and council workers for the sweep which saw graffiti and fly-tipped rubbish removed.

Sgt Wayne Readfern said: "There is a correlation between vehicles which are used illegally and crimes like arson.

By taking these 15 vehicles off the road, there is less chance of them being used for crime or targeted by vandals.

"It's one of a number of ways we have adopted in the area to reduce crime and the fear of crime."

Sgt Readfern said a total of six people were arrested during the crackdown - three at the roadside for motoring offences and a further three who were wanted by the courts for breaching bail. Community support officers also delivered leaflets to homes across the area to offer crime prevention advice and patrols were increased.

Well I fully support the Police in this. The more of these uninsured drivers they get off the road the better. And, as proven by the arrests for failure to appear, these cars are often driven by scrotes.

I think the point Gazz is making is that in 1 week they managed to arrest 3 people for motoring offences and take 15 untaxed vehicles off the road, yet they are preaching as if they have broken a major crime ring and arrested a major gangland leader.

With you all the way on that one Martin. Too many idiots on the road with no insurance, MOT and tax. Cars should have to display an insurance disc like they do in a lot of foreign countries.
No insurance, they should be banged up or made to pay a very heavy fine. Scumbags.

I passed the police checks last week! It’s a pity that so many police are employed for revenue purposes only! What happens when there is any trouble in the area! Absolutely nothing! What happens when some person steals a can of beans from Morrison’s! 2 vans 1 car and 4 policemen! Is it any wonder the boys in blue are not trusted!
It’s more like a club!

What I don’t understand is why the Police wait until these idiots without tax and insurance go on to the road, most of them are parked up illegally on the road side outside houses! Sorry I do understand! The police and the DVLA would not make as much money! So they wait until these idiots are caught on the road at, a greater risk of injury to the rest of us! Law & order NIL accountants 20!

Not only do you need to learn rearn to read things properly you also want to research a bit into what your commenting on as your views just prove how little knowledge of the subject you have. Mind you it is typical of someone who makes their mind up about things by what they read in their local 2 bit paper. This is one initiative I do agree with.

I've been stopped twice..because the car was showing not registered to anybody (the DVLC had not caught up) but they knew all the insurance details, who was permitted to drive and so on. I think it's a bit harsh with the road tax, if the cars insured MOT'd ect, they could give at least a 7 day warning and enforce it if there's genuine reason before towing it away.

If it gets the unlicensed uninsured off the road..good stuff, you may start seeing your premiums come down..though I doubt it !

And the pensioner one as i said above is dates the 21st sept so if anyone wants to bother reading your s.h.i.t.e then they can do so by themselfs.

you are a sad loser and if you are married i feel sorry for the poor t.w.a.t that has to live and put up with you every day.

you lunatic. Are you you really that thick that you think I mean heroin should be available on the NHS for anyone who wants to try it? NO you fool I am refering to those who are already addicted and everyday they commit crimes to fund their habit ie robbing pensioners.

let them get it on the NHS then no more poor old folk have to be their victims.

As I have said before if this is supporting druggies then why isnt their mass protest outside the community drug team in bolton as all they do is provide treatment to try and get people off substances they are misuing ie heroin.

If we are already paying taxes towards provding treatment that doesnt work why not spend the money on providing heroin instead.

I for one would feel safer knowing their isnt a load of desperate heroin addicts roaming about, prepared to commit sick crimes just for money for a fix. Im sure the elderley would feel safer to.

DAY, Daisy Hill is where I live seen as your so desperate to know. Also your druggie freinds would of been dead anyway (by hanging )if it had been up to you, as you said in previous posts. I bet those people never classed you as their friend you two faced hypocrite. I wonder how the mother of your dead druggie mate would feel if she read some of the posts her childs so called mate had wrote on here about other people in thier situation. Keep digging DAY your holes getting bigger by the second.
how do you know she may already know and approve and hewasn't a druggie until he tried to experiment with them and this was only once and just shows that you dont have to be a regular user to suffer.

and yes to the fact i was a freind to all of them but as soon as i found out that they wheir abusing drugs i broke away from them remember you can say no at any time.

so other people in their situation need to take a look at all the damage they are causing to the innocent and i wont agree that if these drugs where available on the nhs then their would be no crimes.
