Tory MP in teen talks

TORY frontbencher Francis Maude chatted to youngsters in Hall i'th' Wood about plans which will see 3,500 borough teenagers handed £35 a month to keep off the streets.

Mr Maude chatted to five young people involved in a Bolton Lads and Girls Club project which has been backed the party's parliamentary candidate for Bolton North-east, Deborah Dunleavy.

The shadow cabinet office minister, in Bolton for a fundraising dinner for Ms Dunleavy's campaign, was told only some of the youngsters involved in the project would be likely to qualify for the grant.

From April, Bolton will be one of nine towns piloting the scheme, which was opposed by Ms Dunleavy in a fringe speech at the recent party conference.

The money will go to youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds, such as those in care or those receiving free school meals.

She said: "I am pleased that Francis was able to join me to see how money allocated to this scheme could be better spent.

"It is places like the Lads and Girls Club that provide excellent services for these young people - a £35 voucher will not encourage the town's young people to partake in similar services."

Francis Maude and the hopeful Ms.D. Dunleavy are not at all interested in the teenagers from disadvantaged backgrounds. Tax cuts for the rich i.e. abolish inheritance tax is their priority.

So once again, it's the good kids that get penalised. Why aren't all teenagers rewarded? It doesn't pay in today's society to be a good citizen. You get nothing for that. Hang around on street corners terrorising people and you will get paid to stop! Nice one. NOT.

It's not that at all it's the kids that cant afford to go out to the cinema or buy a bag of chips or a game to play rather than stand on corners so you have got it wrong here not all teenagers can afford the luxury of going out and being part of the good soceity so get off your high horse.

My high horse? I wished that I had the money to let my children go to the cinema or bowling whenever they wanted. I lived on a budget and could ill afford much after paying all my outgoings! Just because I worked didn't mean I was loaded, quite the opposite. I would probably have been better off on benefits. There are probably hundreds of other families in my position, so why can't all teenagers be treated equally?

I dont often agree with day but on this occasion i will you come on here and shout your mouth off at the fact the goverment are trying to deal with the ever growing problem on anti social behaviour and do some good for all those kids whom cant afford lifes little luxurys this then lets these kids be treated as equals as you said you go on about hundreds of other families what about the 3,500 dont they count then are they not as important as the next one.

This isn't about my children. They are no longer teenagers and have never hung around on the streets anyway. The point I'm making is that (as in a previous quote) EVERY CHILD MATTERS. I just feel that this is not the case for many families in Bolton, who are doing their best bringing up their children and getting little help from the government. All kids should be rewarded for staying out of trouble, not just the poorer ones.

That's as much as you deserve. Why not concentrate on bringing them up properly and teaching them worthwhile pursuits? Hey, maybe even pointing them in the direction of the Lads and Girls Club? Rather than absolving yourself of any responsibility and simply apportioning the blame, try sorting it out! 'Boo hooo, our kids drink cider outside the local shops and it's everyone's fault but our own. We're too busy playing bloody Bingo'.

P, says...

And do tell William, where does the anti social behaviour come from? Who SHOULD be taking
responsibility for these kids who are allowed to roam the streets? I'm one of ten children and as a kid we made our own entertainment and believe me if anybody had come knocking at our door complaining about our behaviour, we knew about it. There was no way my mum or dad could afford to give us the money to go off to the cinema on a regular basis. I think the government need to start looking at the long term problem of teenagers hanging around on the streets instead of dealing with the short term. More youth clubs, free sports facilities and maybe some parenting classes to help support these families.

Once again , the powers that be pandering to the scum of the earth. I wonder just how many of these so-called 'deprived' kids don't own mobile phones, or designer clothes, or don't smoke? The only problem with kids these days is they've got too much and there's no bloody discipline to keep the spoilt little sods in line.
I grew up with 3 siblings in a single parent family from the age of 9 onwards, we had nothing, our clothes were second hand, along with any Xmas presents we might get. None of us hung around on street corners causing trouble, none of us have ever been in trouble with the police, along with the many friends we had that were in the same position. So you do-gooders stop your nanby pamby bleating about these so-called hard-up kids, they don't know the bloody meaning of being hard-up. The more you pamper them the worse it will get, the more you give them, the more they will want.

What about giving the decent kids something..it makes me sick, scrotes getting paid for behaving! My children are both level headed, have never been in trouble, dont terrorise our neighbourhood..Im very proud of that! But £35 a month to any teenager is a bonus....going you nice kids, get robbing and be paid for it! It stinks!

I just can't believe this article. It's like the Victorian do-gooders are back again.

It sounds like protection money - like we used to pay the Vikings to keep away. It sounds a weak option.
What do they think the kids will spend the £35 on - comics, sweets??

In effect it will be condoning the drugs problem, which are likely to be taken at home rather than on the streets - that is, if the parents let them keep the money.

In addition, assuming that the project is meant for the best - how will the kids socialise and fit into society if we pay them to keep out of it

What message is all this sending to them?
It's almost as though it is cheaper than fitting a tracker device round their ankles.

I would rather see the money going towards outreach social workers.

Not there money our money.
I watched a program on TV last night about the north yorkshire police.
One kid 11 yrs old out on the streets at 4.30 in the morning starting fires they took him home 1hr later he had run away and is swearing was terrible.
Another yob it took 5 officers to arrest him then he got let off with a suspended sentence they should have just tasered the scumbag and anyone else like is banshee so called wife screaming and kicking its about time this gov sat down and sorted it out once and for all do the crime do the time and i mean hard labour not the holiday camps they call prisons but no MP **** the balls to stand up and be counted.

why did all you lot that cant afford the upkeep of their kids have them in the first place? Iv got 3 children who have regular trips out and participate in loads of out of school activities all at a cost, but we can afford it. We get CHILD benefit like everyone else with kids under 16 working or not, and that goes towards paying for the stuff they want to do. Maybe you's who state you are on a budget and cant afford to let your kids go to the pictures or bowling, all have cars on finance, tv's on finance etc and your CHILD BENEFIT goes toward paying those off rather than benefiting the child?

Just a thought.

the point to focus on here isn't the government's scheme to help disadvantaged young people, its the sickening cynicism of the Tories who pretend that they care about places like Hall i'th' Wood and other parts of Bolton that normally they wouldn't be seen dead in. Using the Lads and Girls club for political purposes is disgusting and Mrs Dunleavy should be ashamed of herself.

the thing is they probably have never experienced the sort of culture that we have to live with every day deb dunceleavy come and live in our communities for a week with the same money as a single parent and see if you can cope with our day to day problems as you live in your big fancy home and well done to you but when someone as high class as yourself and that other want to be come on here and shooting down some realy possitive work to cut crime and get kids a better chance it get's right up my nose put your money where your mouth is

Labour have created the largest poverty gap, with the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, for 40 years. In fact they've outdone Thatcher for shear callousness. But what can we expect from a party led by a man who when his finger isn't up his nose is in every pie this pathetic government cooks.
