BOLTON actress Diane Morgan is to star alongside Samuel L Jackson, Hugh Grant and Lisa Kudrow in a Netflix comedy event from the creators of dystopian anthology series Black Mirror.

The streaming service describes Death To 2020 as "a landmark documentary-style special" that "weaves together some of the world's most (fictitious) renowned voices with real-life archival footage spanning the past 12 months".

Black Mirror's Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones will create the special with Morgan, who has regularly appeared as the dim-witted presenter Philomena Cunk on Brooker's Weekly Wipe, confirmed to take part.

Following on from Brooker's annual TV Wipes, in which he offers a characteristically acerbic look at the year's highs and lows, Death To 2020 will tackle a year dominated by the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Netflix, it will be "the cathartic comedy event you'll never forget about the year you really, really don't want to remember".

A teaser video said the programme was still in production.

In May, Brooker hosted a special lockdown version of his Wipe series, titled Antiviral Wipe, recorded in the home he shares with his wife Konnie Huq.

The programme saw him poke fun at politicians including Boris Johnson and Health Secretary Matt Hancock.

Morgan, 45, has also co-written a new comedy pilot for BBC Two.

Lethal will star the former George Tomlinson School pupil, as Becky, a Bolton woman obsessed with America. When her visa is denied, she decides to marry a prisoner on death row in order to get her green card.

“Some people will walk through the parched desert to get into America, some will cross a vast ocean, only one woman is prepared to marry a maniac to get there. And that woman is me. Well, a woman I play. But I probably would too,” she added.
