MICHAEL Yates has been nominated as the new Lancashire Union of Golf Clubs President.
The 72-year-old, pictured, will take over from Cliff Bowman in March to become the first person from Bolton to hold the office since Eddie Monaghan in 2001-02 and Ian Black in 1995-96.
Yates, who along with Tom Cuttill and Roy Shipperbottom, are the only members of Dunscar to have sat on the Lancashire Executive.
He joined Dunscar and Old Links, where he is still a social member, in 1966.
He was appointed to the Dunscar Council in 1973 and was honarary secretary for eight years before becoming BGA secretary, a position he held for seven years.
He stood down in in 1995 when he joined the Lancashire Executive, where he has acted as junior captain and chairman of junior golf.
He said: "It is good for Bolton and is a great honour for me and Dunscar, especially as it is our centenary year."
