A TEENAGER who died in a car crash has given the gift of life to others.
Daniel Harrison signed the organ donor register after hearing about it at Bolton School where he was a pupil.
Up to 40 people will now be given a new chance, thanks to his pledge.
Last night Daniel's parents spoke of their pride, and said they hoped he would inspire others to consider becoming organ donors.
His dad, Steven, said: "We want other young people to inspired by Dan and know what his decision of going on the register will mean to 40 people. If it can get one other young person to register then it is important to share what he did."
Daniel's mum Amanda added: "For me it is Dan living on in. We would have made the decision to donate Dan's organs but the fact he had put himself on the register with neither of us knowing makes it all the more poignant. He continues to make us proud.
"He touched so many people during his life and he is continuing to do so."
The 17-year-old A-level student died when the car he was a passenger in crashed into a tree just 100 yards from his home in Old Kiln Lane, Heaton. Fellow classmate Jonathan Sharples, from Wigan, also died in the accident, which happened on December 5. The sports-mad pair were on their way to rugby practice at the school.
Daniel's parents are now expecting a letter which will explain which organs have been used to help others.
Mrs Harrison added: "He was inspirational and a role model to others, the extent of which we are only just finding out about."
A service to celebrate Daniel's life was held at The Reebok Stadium last week ahead of committal at Overdale Crematorium.
A book of condolence for Daniel and Jonathan on The Bolton News website will remail open until midnight.
