METROLINK services operating to and from Bury have been suspended after a man was pronouced dead on the tram tracks.

Emergency services  responded to a 'concern for welfare' call on the tramlines between Abraham Moss and Crumpsall this morning.

A man was pronouced dead on the scene.

No services are operating on the Bury line as an investigation into the death gets underway.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 9.20am this morning (Saturday 31 July 2021), police were called to reports to the concern of the welfare of a man on the tram tracks between the Crumpsall and Abraham Moss tram stop in Manchester.

"Emergency services are in attendance and despite the best work of paramedics, a man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"The tram line between Bury and the city centre is not currently running and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident."

Tickets will be accepted on certain bus services.

In a statement Transport for Greater Manchester said: "Due to a police incident, Metrolink are unable to operate services on the Bury line.

"Ticket acceptance is in place on the 97, 98, 135 and 524 bus services only. Simply show the driver your Metrolink ticket or pass when boarding.

"Please be aware there is also a replacement service operating from Abraham Moss to the City Centre."

The statement does however add: "Some of the services listed may not accept Metrolink tickets/passes, so you may have to purchase a separate bus ticket to be able to make your journey."
