A ROUND-UP of cases heard recently by magistrates.

MAGISTRATES have given a man a suspended prison sentence after he admitted using threatening behaviour towards a man and racially aggravated disorderly behaviour at the Royal Bolton Hospital on January 29. Steven Jackson, aged 31, of South View Street, Bolton, was told that supervision from the probation service was the most appropriate way of dealing with him and so he was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months.

A SPEEDING driver has lost his licence for six months. Afaaq Bibi, aged 23, of Bankfield Street, Bolton, is a repeat motoring offender and was caught speeding on Manchester Road, Bolton, on December 21 last year in a Peugeot. The case against him was proved and he was also fined £300.

A LORRY driver was caught behind the wheel of the vehicle after drinking more than double the legal level of alcohol. Vitas Urbonas, aged 48, who has no fixed address in the UK, was caught driving the lorry at 1.30am on Bridgewater Avenue, Bolton, on September 12. Urbonas was fined £650 and banned from driving for 20 months and told he will spend seven days in prison if he does not pay.

MAGISTRATES have ordered a man to undertake 80 hours of unpaid work after finding him guilty of assaulting a woman on March 2. Samuel Koomson, aged 50, of Calvert Road, Bolton, had denied assaulting John Glover. Koomson must pay £275 in compensation to his victim.

A TEENAGER who assaulted a man on September 29 last year has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for 12 months. The 17-year-old girl from Farnworth initially denied committing the offence but then changed her plea to guilty.

MAGISTRATES have banned a man from the roads for 15 months after he pleaded guilty to drink-driving. Ian Hughes, aged 32, of Chorley Old Road, Bolton, was caught driving a Seat Leon in Deansgate, Bolton, on August 8 last year. Hughes, who also admitted failing to surrender to court, was fined £125.

A BMW driver caught using the vehicle without insurance has been banned from the roads for six months. Andrew Ascroft, aged 35, of Bright Street, Leigh, drove the BMW 118D Sport on the A58 at Westhoughton on January 2. The case against him was proved and he was fined £600.

A DRIVER who was caught using a mobile phone has been spared a roads ban after magistrates heard how his family and charity work would be affected. Muhammad Choudhury, aged 43, of Willows Lane, Bolton, admitted using the handheld phone while driving a Seat Alhambra on Spa Road, Bolton, on November 26, 2019. The offence meant he had accumulated enough penalty points to lose his licence but magistrates decided there were mitigating circumstances as he is the only driver and main earner in his family and he organises events for his mosque which require travel. He was fined £40.

MAGISTRATES have fined a man £150 after he harassed a woman in Mere Gardens, Bolton, on February 7. Jonathon Boardman, aged 47, of Mere Gardens, pleaded guilty.
