48 jobs lost at factory

Nearly 50 jobs are to go at an engineering company that makes components for car exhausts.

Klarius Group, based in Railway Road, Adlington, is to lay off 48 of the 76-strong workforce at its WST Engineering plant.

Talks are being held with union representatives. The job cuts are being blamed on cheap imports.

And so, whilst our beloved leader Gordy, sucks up to the Chinese and Indians, 48 UK tax payers lose their jobs to be welcomed into the State system, don't you love this country.

Stupid comments as usual from the two above,
You cant by british anymore,
Sucessive goverments have seen to that they commited the cardinal sin of selling off the family silver,
Marks& Spencers where one of they few that sold british goods not anymore,
So dont call tubby he got it spot on.

no but the computer was first invented in this country what tubby is saying do more to keep work in the uk rather than ship it all abroad just look at the energy industry now its all been sold to foreign countries we move onto cleaner more efficient nuclear power stations in ten years time until then we pay through the nose to foreigners who dont give a dump for the customers in this country.soon we will have to re-employ people into engineering as the stuff from foreigners will become to costly for companies in this country to afford.left or right wing there is never such a thing as FREE trade theres a price to be paid by all.

It's all very well blaming the government but what of individual responsibility? People aren't willing to pay significantly more for UK produced goods, buy imported goods by the container load and yet moan that things are made abroad. Patriotic until it comes to dipping hands in pockets. Can't have it both ways.

I'm sorry that these people have lost their jobs but to be honest surprised that we even had a company producing exhaust components given we have no car industry - unless they were supplying one of the assembly plants

gabon, bury says...
12:19pm Tue 29 Jan 08

And who do you blame for having no industy o wise one.
Goods made abroad are cheap because they dont have human rights law out there and have to work for a pittance either that or starve.
Also blame a lot on the unions over here thay started the rot with greed,
But then they had to because this country taxes you to the hilt.
There is loads of ways you can look at it Andrew but succesive goverments are to blame.

gabon, bury says...
12:23pm Tue 29 Jan 08

We did have a compamy that made exhausts and components it started in bolton then moved to little lever,
This i do know because i worked for the company that owned it.
It was owned by Bolton Gate Co and was situated in Waterloo St

Andrew, Bury says...
12:32pm Tue 29 Jan 08

Successive governments yes, with Thatcher at the root.

China has a poor human rights record although I would have thought you approved of that given you seem to think human rights are to blame for all ills.

This country does not tax the rich to the hilt. The tax burden is unfairly spread. The TUC estimates we lose £13 billion a year through tax dodges.

But it still doesn't alter the fact that we're all complicit in globalisation, unless we only buy locally sourced products. Which we don't. Give up your cheap imported goods and you may have a point.

I agree with you on the thatcher point.Human rights have two categories
first scrotes who should not have human rights second the people who are being exploited for gain do.
So lets get that clear.
As far as tax dodgers are concerned who are the biggets culprits of this,
Not joe bloggs who goes out to work and pays through his wage packets and as no choice,
Its the fat cats with fancy accontants who rob this country blind
with there many loopholes.
Lastly who is the cause of cheap imports.
???????????????????

Lollipop, Muddy Duct says...

The computer was invented in Manchester..but, I don't think it's possible to purchase a UK built system using UK components ? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Erica, the man with a dodgy toupee, I'm surprised you post anything after being exposed as a fraud and a phoney by Sarah Jones.

I'll tell you something about a lot of imported goods, many HAVE to be finished to standard over here. If instead of snuggling up, why doesn't Brown raise import duties on some goods to protect what's left of our industry ?

You cant blame everything on Thatcher, Labour have had 11 years in which they've decimated what was left.Expensive red tape is through the roof, elf and safety is prohibitive, tax, NI contributions, Corporation Tax all contribute and if you believe the inflation lies.

Unions..how many men to change a light bulb..at GEC in the 70's it was 6. Should I go on ?

It is in 25-30 years time you should be looking not now, though Andrew and Erica, cant see past today so how can you expect any sense ?

If it is truly made in England and is quality, yes I'll support it, though I do have a preference for German made as it lasts a lifetime and have always saved to buy the best, it's cheaper in the long term.

Try telling that to the truck drivers who are based down south. They'll tell you that truckers from the EU are under cutting them due to the fact they buy cheaper fuel and are not subject to our road tax.

One word Globalisation. A big word which sounds impressive and has been bandied about by politicains and businessmen alike, until almost everyone is suckered into believing it's the new industrial revolution, it's the answer to all ills and it will make us all prosperous.

In reality it won't do any of these things for the ordinary people of Britain. It has made rich people richer and kept second rate politicians in their jobs for a few extra years.

It makes no sense whatsoever to make ourselves dependant on other countries for our food, goods and energy needs.
They are selling all this to us. Yet we have nothing to offer them, except borrowed money, the supply of which is now drying up.
We are not producing anything. Therfore, we make no money to buy these foriegn goods ect.
When the recession really starts to bite we will not have the borrowed money available to buy these things either.

We should never have run down all our industry, power and farming. They should have been subsidised. This would have preserved them and kept money and jobs in the country.

We as a country are facing some very hard times. Only a very few old folks will remember anything like what is on the way.

When Poland and other Eastern European states joined the EU, ministers blithely said that the impact of immigration from these new member states on this country would merely amount to somewhere between 5,000 and 13,000 people a year.

For good measure, they denounced as racist those who warned that this was an absurd underestimate.

Of course, as is now well known, the numbers arriving here from Poland alone has amounted to at least 150,000 a year, and the true figure is probably far bigger. Yet we have yet to receive an apology for this egregious act of public deception.

Office of National Statistics (ONS), which predicted that Britain's population will surge from the present 60 million to an unbelievable 71million over the course of the next generation.

By 2051, it is projected to stand at 75million. The majority of this increase will come from immigration. It is worth bearing in mind that England, which will bear the brunt, is already extremely densely populated.

Whereas France has 289 people for every square mile, in England, 1,007 of us struggle to live in the same space.

THE next wave of immigration, according to the ONS figures, will bring an extra population the equivalent of 11 new cities the size of Birmingham.

This huge demographic change will put unimaginable pressure on schools and hospitals, and strain our already overloaded transport structure beyond breaking point. It has massive implications for social cohesion and our national culture.

What is certain is that it will change the kind of country we are in ways that are impossible to anticipate.

David Coleman, professor of demography at Oxford University, gave evidence to the House of Lords economic affairs committee.

He said: "The absent-minded commitment into which we have drifted, to house a further 15million people, must be the biggest unintended consequence of Government policy of almost any century."

If he is right, it is impossible to overstate the importance of the official ONS figures. In this context, it was amazing that not a single senior politician felt such allegations merited a response.

Gordon Brown (as so often happens when really important matters are at stake) has remained silent.

Indeed, the official Downing Street spokesman, when asked to comment, went out of his way to play down the figures.

Equally, there was no discussion of the matter at Prime Minister's Questions, even though the statistics had been published the previous day.

Rocky, Bowton says...
11:32pm Tue 29 Jan 08

I've been arguing the land mass issue for years (population per square mile)

"The Listings Mag" is the only one that is a figment of your imagination, hence the smoke and mirrors to distract attention away.

They have an online edition. They were supposed to launch a Manc edition last year and ballsed up spectacularly. If they think that the way to woo Mancunians is to exploit a party conference, pledge a spring launch, scrap in and launch a stupidly low budget online alternative, well.....

Tubby, have to laugh at people who regard the Daily Mail as a reliable source on anything other than the vaccouus nature of the Beckhams. More fine work - I suppose as they are clearly not experts in the field of race and immigration you can, by Sun's logic, trust them though.
So you read socialist worker then?

It was written in lower case as in 'the listings magazine' not as its actual title.
Jeez, do you understand the difference ?
The only bluff is you making an ar.se of yourself by saying Time Out Manchester magazine exists.

But it does.On-Line but, It's called Time Out, not "the listings mag."

Lowercase, uppercase it doesn't matter.what matters is you making false claims, basically lies.

They are looking at a regular Manchester edition
Again a lie. It already exists.

The magazine does not exist.
I've answered the name point elsewhere.......you obviously don't understand.

LOL ! So why claim to be reviewing for a non existent magazine.

Pure fantasy.

King Eric, says...

To repeat. Time Out is looking at launching a regular paper magazine. It did a 'dummy' run for the Lab Conference.
It will be called "Time Out Manchester', not 'the listings magazine'.
'listings magazine' is a description.

Time Out is looking at launching a regular paper magazine

But to be fair Tony Elliott has been 'looking' at this hard copy edition for nearly a year now. He first confirmed an October 07 launch in March 07. Since then we have seen Crains announced, recruiting and up and running by December.
As Mr Elliott is worth £93m, I'm sure he could stump up some funds for six months if he really wanted to, but it seems that the backers he was looking for do not share his optimism. I think we all know where this is going...

Down the pan. They will have really hacked off potential advertisers and they're paying online contributors buttons by the looks.

Meanwhile about 50 families suffer the blight of redundancy.

Thanks for thinking of them rather than resorting to self-indulgent chit chat.
