EARTHQUAKE UPDATE: Your Comments

Dozens of people have rung or emailed our NewsDesk to report how they felt as the earthquake struck early this morning.

George Ellis of Westhoughton emailed us at 1.14am: "OMG! its 1:00 am on 27/02/08 Wed Morning and I was sitting watching late night TV when the whole house started shaking for about 20 seconds. I ran upstairs to speak to my wife who was in bed to see if she had felt the tremor and she said it had woke her up! I unlocked the door to see if a truck had hit the front of the house because I,ve never experianced anything like it FREAKY!

I'm about to look on the net to see if theres any other reports."

Mark Topp wrote: "Hi, I live on Yewdale Avenue in Breightmet, where i live is a block of six flats, at 1am the whole flat shook for a few seconds, just wondering if there has been a tremor or such reported in the area."

Charles Wallworth wrote: "Surely that must have been an earthquake. My whole kitchen has shook and my glass has just fell of my computer top."

Stephen Hennessy wrote: "We are sat in our house on Bury New Road, Breightmet at 1 am. There were 2 shudders that shook the couch in our home, I ran upstairs to check my wife Sharon was ok, and she had woken up.

"She had felt the shudders to, they were about 30 to 40 seconds apart and no damage was done. but it was an eary experience. Cannot think of another explanation other than a minor earthquake."

Melanie McCluskey sent us this text message: "Bromley Cross just had an earth tremor at 1a.m. Wednesday morning, 27 February. Any other reports about this?"

The whole house shook!

My sideboard creaked, and I physically shook on the couch!

It happened at 12:58 am last night, it lasted only a couple of seconds, and I can't think of anything else it could have been....

WEIRD !"

Paul Lacey wrote: "The tremors last night could be felt at Bolton Town Centre, the alarms were going off all over, and the block of flats felt like they were shaking from the floor up.

"Until I saw the news I though it could not be a tremor so big, I have not felt anything like that since my childhood when the underground Nuclear tests were being carried out."

Lee Hilton sent us a text message: "Hi i just like to know if what we just felt was an earthquake in the Halliwell area. There was a few people that felt it as well in the street as we went around the area to see if anying had happened it was around about 1:05am."

Dave Grime wrote: "Was there a tremor in Leigh at approx 12:58am on Wednesday morning? Our whole house shook for a few seconds."

Carl Rolfe wrote: "Strong Earthquake felt in Little Lever at 1am, the whole house shook."

Dave Hutchinson wrote: "How many people felt the Earthquake at 12:55 this morning ? I was puzzled by what had happened then received a text from my son in Sheffield to ask if I had felt it. Have you had any other reports about it?"
