A MAN died after taking prescription drugs, an inquest heard.

David Jones was found dead on his sofa on October 2, 2007, after his sister alerted police.

She had called to his home in Car Bank Street, Atherton, but he failed to answer so she dialled 999.

After breaking into his house, officers found Mr Jones "motionless" on the sofa, Bolton Coroner's Court was told.

They noticed family photographs had been turned face down, and found prescription drugs in the kitchen.

Test results read out during the inquest showed Mr Jones, a divorced father of three, had a dangerous level of quinine - medication to treat leg cramps - and painkillers in his bloodstream.

The Inquest also heard that Mr Jones was in the middle of a custody dispute with his ex-wife regarding one of his three daughters.

Mr Jones's mother, Margaret Jones, said: "This upset him deeply. He died of a broken heart."

Assistant Deputy Coroner, Chris Welton, recorded an open verdict.
