THE motto of the Longsight Veterans' bowling club in Harwood is as follows "To play well, to win well, and if fate deems it, to lose well".
A new season is about to start and I will be doing my best to live up to these ideals, particularly the last part.
Bowls may well be seen as an old man's game but an attempt is being made this season to connect with people as young as 11 who might be persuaded to take up a challenging pastime. I am told that players at the Longsight and Bradshaw clubs will be holding taster sessions on Tuesday mornings during the summer for pupils at Withins and two Harwood primary schools - St Brendan's and Hardy Mill.
Lads, girls, dads and mums can turn up at Longsight at 9.30am on Saturdays to see what it is all about or contact Geoff Coupe on 01204 402305 or by e-mail on gcoupe@ntlworld.com
