A DROP-IN centre that serves more than 10,000 free meals a year has announced it will keep running thanks to a £53,000 grant.

The centre at St Luke's Church in Halliwell provides a range of services including washing facilities, clothes, advice on housing, benefits and debt and counselling.

It began at a small shop unit in Chorley Old Road in 1992 and now welcomes more than 50 people a day.

The funding has come from Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales, which supports groups that help disadvantaged people to play a fuller role in the community.

The money will help pay for a manager and two part-time assistants for three years.
