Cheers to healthier living for kids in Tonge Moor

8:30pm Thursday 17th April 2008

YOUNGSTERS have been given water bottles in a bid to make them healthier and to help keep them alert in lessons.

Pupils at Castle Hill Primary School in Tonge Moor were given the bottles by community enterprise Tonge Bikes Ltd.

The not-for-profit venture provides cycling opportunities for young people, including mountain bike rides, BMX biking and courses in basic skills and cycle maintenance.

Children can fill up the bottles anywhere in school, as all its water is suitable for drinking.

The scheme is the latest initiative introduced at Castle Hill Primary to make children healthier.

A healthy snack shop has opened selling goodies including fat-free flap jacks, crumpets and toasted teacakes at break times.

School office manager Rebecca Heaton said: "We are trying to become a healthier school and water helps with concentration. This is the next step in helping children to be healthier."
