Wanderers join college to launch coaching course

WANDERERS have teamed up with Bolton Community College in a bid to produce soccer coaches of the future.

The college is offering a new NVQ course in football coaching and training to allow students to learn the skills to become successful in the role.

Wanderers' coach education manager, Jack Trainer, will work alongside the college's football coach and curriculum leader to teach the practical sessions of the course to 16 and 17-year-olds.

Mr Trainer said: "As a club we are committed to nurturing raw talent and a passion for the game.

"We are regarded as leaders in the field of coach education and we hope that, together with Bolton Community College, we can remain at the forefront of coaching techniques."

The course is accredited by the Football Association and includes all aspects of coaching, including preparing coaching sessions and dealing with injuries.

Ben Blocksidge, curriculum leader of sport, fitness and public services at the college, said the course would be tough.

He said: "There is a serious amount of work to be done, both on and off the pitch, with learners having to complete the practical requirements of the course, from planning, health and safety to, child protection issues, risk assessment and much more."
