Pupils help hospice with charity supermarket

YOUNG entrepreneurs at a primary school have raised £1,100 for charity.

Pupils at Eatock School, in Westhoughton, held a "charity supermarket" in aid of Bolton Hospice.

They invited parents and local residents to a sale of groceries and other goods donated by the pupils.

The youngsters also provided a cafe for their shoppers, serving homemade cakes, teas and coffees.

Local businesses donated prizes for a raffle, including a DVD player and bouquets of flowers.

Debbie Hunt, the school's charity co-ordinator, said: "We held a similar event last year and raised £800, so this year we really pushed to reach the £1,000 mark. I'm absolutely delighted we managed to beat that.

"The charity supermarket was an excellent example of the children, parents and the community working together for a very worthy cause."
