Naked women urging people to be adventurous for charity

AFTER stripping naked on television a group of fundraisers are urging local people to be adventurous and help them raise cash for charity.

Seven volunteers from Macmillan Cancer Support have taken part in the latest series of Channel 4's How To Look Good Naked, stripping off all in the name of fundraising.

Now they are looking for volunteers for their next money-making event, The Great Escape, which will see people breaking out of prison, be dumped in a mystery location and find their way back to Manchester without using cash or their mobile phone.

Aggie Sheppard, fundraising manager for Bolton, said: "If people aren't adventurous enough to get their clothes off for charity they might want to do this very different event instead."

The members of the North-west fundraising office applied to become Gokettes, named after the presenter of the show, stylist, Gok Wan, after considering doing a Calendar Girls calendar to raise money for the charity.

Gok styled the seven women, in addition to the main participant of the programme, which was aired at the end of April.

Mrs Sheppard said: "It started off as a joke and we thought we would apply just to see what would happen. I never thought we would get picked to be part of the series.

"It seemed like a great way to reach people and promote what Macmillan does. It was also great for us to face our body fears, it was a huge challenge but we felt so liberated afterwards."

The women from Macmillan were made over, taken through confidence exercises then had a photograph taken of them naked.

Following their television experience, the fundraisers are now considering producing a calendar but their next event is The Great Escape.

It will see a group of people locked in Strangeways Prison on Saturday, July 5.

The teams of two will be handcuffed and after breaking out will be dropped off at a mystery location in the north of England.

From there they will have to make their way back to Tiger Tiger at the Printworks, Manchester, without spending any money or using their mobile phone.
