A CHARITY which helps victims of crime has been given £2,000 by the Duchy of Lancaster.

The money was presented to Victim Support by the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester, Edith Conn.

Victim Support is a charity which provides help and information for people who have had crimes committed against them.

The cash will pay for the training of five new volunteers.

Victim Support area manager Lesley Daniels said: "We are delighted that the fund has acknowledged the work of our volunteers with this grant, and that the High Sheriff has taken time out of her busy schedule to visit us and talk to our volunteers.

"Sadly, in today's society, we hear about crime every day - so much so that it has become a faceless issue.

"It is easy to forget that each crime carries with it a huge amount of pain and suffering for those affected."
