A NATIONAL campaign group which is against post office closures is urging people in Bolton to fight a proposal to axe seven branches.
Post Office Limited announced on June 10 that district branches in Astley Bridge, Tonge Moor, Morris Green, Farnworth, Westhoughton and Heaton are under threat as part of cost-cutting plans.
A public consultation period is now under way before a final decision is made.
Communities Against Post Office Closure (CAPOC) is made up of groups from across the country who are fighting the plans in their areas.
John Warman, of the CAPOC, said: "It is very important for post offices to put in the best submission they can.
"Petitions are good and it is best if all the signatures are from local people who will be affected, not just anyone who can be found.
"People need to get letters in as soon as they can and make them personal.
"Don't give up and stand up for your post office."
Post offices and campaigners can find information and advice at postofficeclosures.org.uk/SaveYourPO.php.
Bolton is set to lose Astley Bridge post office, Blackburn Road; Ainsworth Lane post office, Entwistle Street, Tonge Moor; Morris Green post office, Morris Green Lane; Moses Gate post office, Egerton Street, Farnworth; Daisy Hill post office, Leigh Road, Westhoughton; Hart Common post office, Wigan Road, Westhoughton and Higher Chorley Old Road, Chorley Old Road, Heaton.
