DAVE Spikey backed a new night-time cafe which opened last night.
The cafe - run from Bank Street Chapel - will act as a safe haven for young people and will provide a waiting point for lifts home and taxis.
Organisers will also be handing out free plastic bottle stoppers - called Spikeys - to the first 100 customers to prevent drink spiking by ensuring only a straw can fit through the hole in the top.
The Phoenix Nights star said: "Everyone likes to go out and have a good time but it's no joke when you have too much to drink or get separated from your mates.
"It's a great idea and I hope everyone supports it."
Organiser, Adrienne Tonge added: "It will be a place for people to come and get a cheap cup of coffee earlier in the evening and then come and order a taxi at the end of the night."
Young people also back the cafe.
Leanne Wild, aged 20, from Farnworth said: "I've been separated from my friends before. You feel really vulnerable so knowing there is somewhere safe to go will be brilliant."
The cafe, which will provide Fairtrade tea and coffee, will be run by volunteers.
The group Christian Community Cohesion has donated £1,000.
