SILENCE fell over the former home of Bolton Wanderers yesterday as shoppers marked the 63rd anniversary of the Burnden Park disaster.
The disaster, on March 9, 1946, killed 33 people and injured more than 500 after 85,000 fans crammed into the stadium to watch the FA Cup tie with Stoke City.
The site is now occupied by Asda, and supermarket staff held a minute’s silence at 3.02pm on Monday to commemorate the tragedy.
