BOLTON’S newest Detective Inspector has already found himself at the centre of some of the town’s most high-profile murder investigations.

Andrew Meeks has taken over the CID’s reactive unit after working on Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team (MIT), where he was one of the lead detectives in two of Bolton’s most shocking recent murder cases.

He was part of the team that brought Leon Ramsden to justice after he stabbed Paul Gilligan to death in the former Pepper Alley pub in Bolton town centre last summer.

His team then took the lead in investigating the murder of Katie Summers, who was stabbed 82 times by her ex-partner Brian Taylor. Both Ramsden and Taylor were given life sentences earlier this year.

Now, Det Insp Meeks, aged 40, is relishing the challenge of heading up his own CID unit.

He said: “I am really excited and looking forward to it. Working in MIT you are always part of a large team. This is different. It’s going to be good to be able to manage my own investigations.”
