A YOUNG radio star has been snapped up by Bolton FM.

Former Canon Slade pupil, Carl Hartley, has forged a career in local radio — presenting shows on Lakeland Radio, Rugby FM and The Bay, in Lancaster.

The 26-year-old has been tempted away from commercial radio to work for his hometown community station as programme manager, one of only two full-time positions at the station.

The Bolton Wanderers fan said he could not resist the opportunity of working for Bolton FM.

He said: “This is something I could only ever have dreamed of but one of my favourite sayings is: if you believe in your dreams hard enough then they will come true.”

Bolton FM vice chairman, Andrew Dickson, added: “Carl has experience beyond his years. He’s been on the radio scene a long time. We were really pleased when he agreed to join us.”

Bolton FM launches on June 20 in Victoria Square.

The station is run for the community by the community and there are still lots of opportunities for volunteers.
