THE battle to save Middle Earth and to win the Wild West was fought in Bolton at the weekend.

Characters from history and fantasy films and books, including those from the American Civil War, flocked to the Holiday Inn to re-enact scenes on table tops in Bolton’s first war-gaming show.

Warrior Bazaar was organised by Paul Reid, of wargame group, Tudor Warrior, who said: “This is the largest show staged in Bolton and we are hoping to make it annual event.”

Exhibitors from across the UK brought along tiny figures which would not look out of place in films such as Lord of the Rings or Star Wars. Visitors had a chance to paint the figures, some no more than three millimetres high, to take part in the games.

Simon Jackson, who runs Little-Lever based Pig Iron Ltd, which makes figures and other war-gaming items, said: “I took up the hobby 15 years ago. It reminds me of model-making when I was a child.”
