Youngsters received expert tips as they prepare for a 2km fun run next month.
Benita Johnson, Australia’s three times Olympic middle-distance runner, arrived with a roadshow at the borough’s sports specialist schools, St Joseph’s RC High in Horwich, and Thornleigh Salesian College.
Scores of children from primary schools across the borough turned up to get advice on training and how to enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
Benita said: “I’ve had so much fun training with the children for their fun run. It’s great to see how excited they are getting about taking part.”
The pupils are among more than one million children, aged five to 11, taking part in the annual Tesco Great School Run, designed to boost fitness and fun among youngsters.
Alison Burrowes, Thornleigh Salesian College headteacher, said: “Having an Olympic athlete got the children excited about exercising.”
