DRUG dealers and users in Bolton are being targeted in a fresh police crackdown.

A range of tactics will be used against the criminals this week including raids on drug dens, targeting known and suspected offenders through bail and curfew visits and roadside checks around drug crime hotspots.

The week of action — across Greater Manchester — has been organised by the police’s anti-drugs Scorpion priority group which is led by Bolton’s chief of police, Chief Superintendent Steve Hartley.

He said: “Drug crime destroys communities, fuels a whole range of other crimes, breaks up families and wastes lives.”

Other elements of the week include working with pub and club landlords to tackle drug use and dealing in licensed premises and raising awareness of the dangers of drugs to young people through workshops in schools.

Police officers will also be working with council officers and drugs workers to set up information points in community venues.

A seminar for property owners, letting agents and housing associations will take place at the City of Manchester Stadium on Thursday and will warn them to be on their guard against cannabis farmers.
