BUDDING table tennis star Bethany Farnworth is celebrating winning a gold medal — and hopes more will follow as she bids to become a professional player.
Schoolgirl Bethany, aged 11, a pupil at SS Osmund and Andrew School in Breightmet, beat 100 competitors from 10 districts in the table tennis section of this year's Champion Challenge, formerly Greater Manchester Youth Games.
Bethany trains four times a week and hopes to play professionally when she is older.
Currently looking for sponsorship, she is ranked number two in the Lancashire under-11s. She said: “All my family and friends are really proud of me for winning the competition.
“Table tennis is something I really enjoy.”
