A YOUNG woman who promised her dying grandmother that she would raise money for Bolton Hospice will this week stage a massive fundraising event.
Norma Lomax died at the facility last summer, suffering from a lung condition and brain cancer.
She asked her granddaughter, Jenny Monteith, to fundraise for the hospice because of the wonderful care she had received. Now the 24-year-old is doing just that and has planned a ‘Girls Night Out’, which will take place on Wednesday, with her friend, Louise Hindley.
Miss Monteith, of Tonge Fold, said: “She said ‘after I’m gone do what you can to help them in the future’ so that’s what I’m doing. The hospice needs the money, it is run mainly on donations, and what they do is fantastic.”
Ms Lomax, who lived in Tonge Moor, visited the hospice regularly then spent several weeks there, before her death in August 2008.
The Girls Night Out will be at Dixon Green Labour Club in Mossfield Road, Farnworth, from 6pm. Prizes include a holiday in Cornwall, meals at various restaurants and an hour in a chauffeur driven limo.
Tickets are £15, including a supper and entry in to the main prize draw. It is hoped more than £2,500 will be raised. To find out more text Louise Hindley on 07588 420133 or phone after 6pm. Tickets are also available from the club or on the door.
