AN MP has joined a campaign to save the Oxfam shop in Horwich.
Ruth Kelly, Bolton West MP, has met Ian Falkingham, Oxfam’s area manager for East Lancashire, to discuss the future of the shop.
Ms Kelly requested the meeting following the reports in The Bolton News that Oxfam was closing the shop in Lee Lane, which had prompted protests from residents and volunteers.
Mr Falkingham told Ms Kelly that Oxfam was looking for more suitable premises in Horwich and is looking into the possibility of retaining a base at the community centre to ensure the fundraising team continue their good work.
Ms Kelly said: “I am grateful to Mr Falkingham for meeting me to discuss this issue and I have asked him to keep me updated regarding developments.
“He has told me that he is continuing to see if suitable premises can be found.
“I understand and share local concerns about the future of the shop and I hope that Oxfam are able to find an accessible venue in Horwich.”
