A YOUNG chef’s career is cooking on gas after he landed his dream job working for a celebrity chef.
Jordan Foster studied hospitality and catering at Salford City College and completed a work experience placement at a restaurant belonging to the renowned seafood chef, Mitch Tonks.
The celebrity chef, a regular on BBC’s Saturday Kitchen, was so impressed with Jordan’s skill and commitment that he offered him a job as commis-chef at his new restaurant, The Rockfish Grill, in Bristol.
Jordan was supported by an Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) grant while he studied and wants other young people to follow their dreams.
Jordan, aged 18, a former Harrop Fold High School pupil, said: “The EMA helped to get me where I am.
“I did my work experience at Mitch’s restaurant in Dartmouth and he asked me if I wanted a job over the summer.
“Then he asked if I wanted to work in his new restaurant. I had worked really hard during my placement, but I was still shocked.
“It’s a dream come true for me. If you’d said to me two years ago I would be moving to Bristol working in this new restaurant, I would never have believed them. Going on my course and the work experience made all the difference.”
Jordan, whose family live in Milton Crescent, Farnworth, is now enjoying living in Bristol.
During his placement, Jordan, who was a former finalist in the National Seafood Championships, had the chance to cook for Masterchef presenter Greg Wallace.
Mr Tonks said: “You can walk into a kitchen and instantly notice the chefs who have a natural talent for cooking.
“Jordan was a great example of this, and when he came to the Seahorse in Dartmouth he showed a real commitment and motivation for the art of cooking.
“It is going to be a pleasure working with him in his formative years before he goes on, no doubt, to make a great name for himself as a chef in his own right.”
